I’ve been riding a bike for as long as I can remember. It’s one of my favourite ways to get around, and it keeps me fit and healthy. But lately I’ve noticed that cycling has become more popular than ever before. 

When I started out in this sport, most people didn’t know what a cyclist was or how to ride one. Nowadays you see bikes everywhere – even on the London Underground!

If you want to be a better cyclist, it’s time to cut out the junk. The first step is to lose weight. And by “lose weight,” we don’t mean dieting or exercising for a few months we mean making lifestyle changes that will keep the pounds off forever. 

That means avoiding processed foods and alcohol, cutting down on sugar, and getting off your butt more often to move around (or at least take the stairs instead of the elevator).

It also means eating healthier foods: fruits and vegetables (as opposed to chips), lean meats over red meat, whole grains over refined flour products like white breads or pastries. 

These changes won’t just make you look better; they’ll make it easier for you to pedal longer distances without stopping for breath so often because your body will be less tired from digesting all those empty calories!

Join A Club

You can learn from other riders especially those who are faster than you! And training with other cyclists helps improve performance as well as mental health.

You can motivate each other to go further, and if one person has a problem, the rest can help them out. 

It’s also great for learning from each other: for example, I had my first puncture on my commute after my flatmate (who was way more experienced than me) showed me how to fix it quickly and easily.

Set Goals

Setting a goal is the first step to making your training plan a reality. You can’t train for something if you don’t know what it is that you want to accomplish!

The most basic, general and broadest of these goals would be simply “lose weight” or “get in shape”, which is fine as an overarching goal but not much help when it comes time to make specific plans. 

A more helpful approach would be to set yourself some specific objectives (e.g., lose 2kg by June) and break them down into smaller steps (e.g., lose 1kg by February).

These days there are dozens of online tools that will help you create a comprehensive plan for achieving whatever fitness goals you set for yourself from cycling-specific training log sheets through to GPS tracking apps that calculate routes based on average speeds and distances travelled over the course of entire journeys. 

There are also plenty of inspirational stories about people who have managed amazing feats despite having severe disabilities or illnesses these stories can show us what we’re capable of when we focus our efforts on achieving our goals rather than complaining about how difficult things are going to be.

Learn How To Ride In A Group

Riding in a group can be intimidating for many cyclists, especially if you’re new to cycling or haven’t done much riding with others. 

The good news is that with some practice, it’s not as hard as you might think. Here are some tips for getting started:

Start small. If you’re not used to riding in groups and don’t have much experience on the road, try riding with only one other person at first this will give you more time to get used to the pace and feel of riding in a group before having to deal with multiple people at once. 

Once you get comfortable with that, then add more people into the mix slowly until eventually there’s an entire pack behind you!

Be patient. It may take a while before everyone gets into their groove together; try not to get frustrated by this process you’ll all get better at it over time! 

Keep practicing together until everyone feels like they’ve reached their comfort level (both physically and emotionally).

Eat And Drink Healthily

Eat a balanced diet: Don’t go crazy on the carbs.

Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic drinks: The body needs to stay hydrated to keep your organs functioning properly, so aim to drink at least 2 litres every day.

Eat before, during and after exercise: If you’re planning on cycling for more than an hour, it’s important that fuel your body by eating healthy snacks beforehand. 

This includes fruits and vegetables as they provide minerals like potassium which can help prevent cramps or dehydration during long rides. 

It’s also worth making sure that you eat within 30 minutes of exercising if possible as this will help replenish glycogen stores in the liver post-workout so that your muscles recover quicker.
